The first three years are the formative ones and most crucial and the things the little ones learn at this time stays with them forever. It's also the time they are most vulnerable and are to be protected as any incidence can make a lasting impact on their young minds.

Toys are not just for playing but they are the tools that help them learn and grow and helps in shaping their minds.

  1. Stacking the rings helps them understand the concept of big and small. I had bought rings for my daughter and she loved stacking them, first from smaller to larger and then from bigger to smaller ones.

  2. Building blocks helps in making hand eye coordination and builds their fine motor skills. I daughter would be very happy when she was able to stack the blocks and would clap happily.

  3. Pretend toys like kitchen set and doctor sets help in shaping their minds by letting them know about life skills. Playing with her kitchen set my daughter knew about the vegetables and how sugar and tea is required to make a good cup of tea.

  4. Another important tool for the shaping of minds is picture books and story books. My daughter was instantly attracted to the big, bright pictures in the picture books as soon she knew the names of all the objects as i kept repeating them.

  5. Story telling time is the time to bond best with kids. My daughter loved our bed time story telling session and would listen to each word intently. Listening to stories shapes their imagination and creativity.

Minds are shaped by not just reading books but by toys, life skills, stories and outdoor activities and the key to all of them is spending quality time with kids

About Priyanka Rai

I am a dental surgeon, an army wife and a mother of a 30 months old daughter grooming her round the clock. Writing is my passion and when not writing I love to spend my time in the company of books and my daughter. My life changed completely two and a half years ago when my daughter was born. From being a working woman to a full-time mother was a tremendous transition but I cherish every moment of it. From the moment when I held her first till the time, I walked her to playschool every moment has been sheer bliss. I love talking to her, reading books to her and capturing her different moods and moments.
